In case you haven’t heard, the Lake Youth Foundation’s 10th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta will be held on Saturday, July 19th at Sailboat Beach.
If you’re interested in joining in on the fun, get a group of family or friends and come up with a design and name for your boat. The boat must be made entirely of cardboard, glue, tape, and paint, and will then be paddled around a 100-yard course for adults and approximately 50 yards for children. Directions on how to make your boat float are located on the back of the registration form.
Boats will be dropped off at Sailboat beach between 9:30am – 10:00am. Festivities begin at 10:00am as our three judges will award 3 pre-race awards, which will be presented at 10:30am. A “People’s Choice Award” will also be given. This award will raise funds to support the Lake Youth Foundation Scholarship fund. The boat races will begin at 11:00am, and afterward trophies will be presented for boats that come in 1st and 2nd place in their respective categories, and everyone will be presented a participation medal!
The registration fee is $20 and includes a t-shirt. The deadline for registrations is July 1st. Forms are available at the Holcomb building or at www.lakeyouth.org. For questions on this event, please contact Diane at 540-972-8634 or by email at info@lakeyouth.org.
We hope to see you there!

Last month was a hit! Hundreds and hundreds of people attended and a good time was had by all! It’s time for round two, this time featuring the smooth sounds of jazz with The Doug Gately Trio. The concert will take place Friday, June 27 from 7-9PM at Clubhouse Point.

Doug Gately is the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Mary Washington & Director of the UMW Jazz Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, and the principal instructor of flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone and jazz piano. He has performed with Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennet, Nancy Wilson, Bob Hope, Spinners, Temptations, Crystal Gayle, the Manhatten Transfer, and the National Symphony Orchestra! The trio/quartet consists of piano, bass, drums, & vocalist. Get excited for jazz with sophistication; a mix of mainstream jazz, blues, funk rock, latin, and fusion.
The event is 100% funded by sponsors who are also LOW residents! Sponsors include: Pat Licata-REALTOR, Locust Grove Veterinary Clinic, Helping Hands Home Health Care, Design Craft Homes, Evergreen Electric, JK Carpets, Lakeside Title & Escrow, and Pittman Florist.
The Orange County Humane Society is acting as the “Hospitality Committee” and will be offering the chance to make a donation and/or purchase some raffle tickets. The many raffle prizes range from $1,000 to dinner at a local restaurant. You could be a winner!
The group needs a new van to transport animals from the Orange County Animal Shelter to PetSmart for weekend adoption events, so please give generously.
Just like last month, the clubhouse is offering take-out picnic choices, so please call ahead, and get yours ordered by Thursday, June 26 at 3PM for the event on the 27th! Call 540-972-2221 to order.
Don’t forget your sunglasses and hat in addition to your blanket! See you there!
