Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Make reservations at the Lake of the Woods Clubhouse for your Thanksgiving dinner. Clubhouse is located at:102 Lake of the Woods Way, Locust Grove, VA 22508. There are only two times available and with limited seating. Thursday, November 22nd 11:30 am until 1:30 pm or 2 pm until 4 pm. The Clubhouse will be offering a buffet with some DELICIOUS options including but not limited to: Oven Roasted Turkey, Carved Virginia Baked Ham, Carved Baron of Beef, Pan-seared Rockfish in Garlic Butter, fried oysters, traditional stuffing, and so much more! There will even be an assortment of desserts and pies to finish your meal with something sweet. The buffet will be $29.95 per person, $11.95 for children age 10 and under and children under 3 will be free. Please note: Tax and gratuity is not included in this price. You MUST reserve your spot! Treats on the Point will be available from 6 PM-7 PM, where trick-or-treaters can fill their bags along the path with residents dishing out the treats! People wanting to participate by handing out treats at the point should set up by 5:45PM.
Children will be arriving at 6pm! Signs and banners will be permitted, so this is a great chance to promote your group/club/organization! If you are not wanting to participate in trick-or-treat festivities, please turn your outside lights off. Trick-or-treaters, please pass by homes that have the outside lights off. Friends of Wilderness Battlefield hosting their 2nd Annual Canoe Trip!
Saturday, August 25th, National Park Service Historian: Greg Mertz will be leading a day-trip canoe tour of Civil War sites along the Rapidan River. He will be narrating and bringing to life Stonewall Jackson, George Custer and J.E.B Stewart, to name a few.
You will have the opportunity to visit these historic crossing sites – many that are not easily accessible by land.
Plan to be on the water ALL day – so bring lunch, a cooler, sunscreen, wipes, any medication you require along with any other necessities you would need for the day. The terrain is rugged and possibly damp, so be prepared and dress accordingly.
The trip will begin at Ely’s Ford at 8:30AM, SHARP and you will be transported to Germanna and float back to Ely’s Ford with an estimated arrival time of 3PM.
There is a limit of 15 canoes (29 participants, plus the host, Greg).
The cost is $50, with Friends of Wilderness Battlefield receiving about half of the $50. If you want to be paired with a friend or someone in particular, please let them know that upon signing up and registering.

Civic Club Hosts Reception for LOWA BOD Candidates by Pat Licata, President
Please join the Civic Club on Wednesday, July 11th, at 5:30 PM, as we host a Reception for the Candidates in the Great Hall of the Clubhouse. We encourage you to mingle with the candidates from 5:30-6pm, with the forum beginning at 6pm. Each candidate will have 2-3 minutes to deliver his/her message to the audience. A cash bar will be available, and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
The Lake of the Woods Board candidates are Heidi Brown, Pete Brown, Ralph Debnam, Walt Diercks, Bill Feterle, Bill Logan, Allen Priester, and Adrien Terrenoiere. The candidates will be vying for 3 Board of Directors vacancies on the 7 member Board. LOWA will mail ballots to lot owners near the end of July and the balloting will conclude on September 1st at the Association’s Annual Meeting.

You are cordially invited to join the Civic Club in welcoming our June 20th speaker, Sheriff Mark Amos, at our meeting being held in the Clubhouse Great Hall at 7pm. There will be plenty of time allotted for questions, so please bring yours!
Sheriff Amos, born and raised in the town of Orange, was graduated from Orange County High School in 1980. He has dedicated his life to serving the public, having been a member of the Orange Volunteer Fire Company since 1979. After honorably serving in the United States Air Force as a firefighter, he moved back to Orange and began working in the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in the mid 80’s as a patrol deputy.
Amos worked his way up the ranks to the position of Chief Deputy prior to being elected as our Sheriff in 2007. Mark is a lifetime member of the Orange Volunteer Fire Company, a member of American Legion Post 156, and is the current secretary for the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute.
Please plan to attend this informative presentation. You’ll learn a little more about how the Sheriff’s Office works with security, about crime in our area, and the jurisdiction the office has in our Lake of the Woods community. Hope to see you there!

Visit Fort Germanna & the Enchanted Castle in Locust Grove!
If you have ever wanted to visit Fort Germanna and the Enchanted Castle, your chance is here! There will be multiple days throughout summer that the Germanna Foundation is hosting free public access days at their archaeology site. Typically this site is not open to the public!
You can see the progress being made while they work to uncover the historic fort commissions by Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood.
Visitors are able to stop by anytime between the scheduled hours – and while there is no fee – registration is required and donations are encouraged!! You can visit the Fort Germanna Visitor center to pick up a map with directions.
What can you expect from this visit?

-Learn about frontier life
-View active dig sites
-Talk with interns and field students about their recent finds and experiences!

During this training day on Saturday, June 9th from 11 AM – 3 PM you can join Lake of the woods Adaptive Watersports Foundation & Therapeutic Adventures, Inc while they train volunteers to assist with the adaptive paddling and adaptive water-skiing!
