The annual Festival of Kites is coming back to town on September 12th, at Brown’s Island in Richmond, Virginia! From 11AM – 6PM you’ll enjoy seeing all the various kites take to the sky, and you’ll definitely want to join in on the fun! Moon bounces and inflatables will also be available for kids and adults to enjoy! If you’re wanting to bring your own kite to fly, you’re more than welcome to, or you can purchase there! Supplies are limited though, so be prepared just in case! If all the kite flying works up an appetite, don’t fret because several food vendors will be setting up, as well as fresh smoothies and other beverages. There will also be an array of various vendors that will be displaying fine art, jewelry crafts and more! Did you know there are 43 designated dark sky parks in the US? Of those 43 there are now 2 in Virginia! Staunton River State Park has been a designated dark sky park in Virginia. Next month the James River State Park in Buckingham County will be joining the International Dark-Sky Association!
James River State Park is located at: 104 Green Hill Dr, Gladstone VA 24553 and has outdoor lighting policy to minimize light pollution. According to the Free Lance Star, this project was lead by Lora Callahan as an effort to win a Girl Scout Gold Award.

Don’t miss Lake Anna’s 2019 Brewfest happening in Spotyslvania right down the road from us here in Lake of the Woods!
Saturday, May 18th from 11 am to 5pm at the Lake Anna State Park (6800 Lawyers Rd, Spotsylvania VA 22551), Lake Anna will be hosting their sixth annual Brewfest right on their shores. VIP admission will start at 11 am, general admission begins at 12 pm, and the event concludes at 5 pm for everyone.
There will be over 30 different local and regional breweries featuring more than 65 different beers, cider, wine and even moonshine! There will be a variety of over 30 food vendors to enjoy lunch or early dinner while enjoying your alcoholic beverage tastings. What’s beer and dinner without music? There will be live music and even some games to get you through the day!
Of course this is a family friendly event and the proceeds from this Brewfest will help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Friends of Lake Anna State Park.
Tickets are currently $20 each for super early bird purchases and includes a commemorative pint glass with 10 sampling tickets and access to the event. Additional sampling tickets can be purchased, CASH, at the event for $1 each. VIP super early bird tickets are $40 and include the commemorative pint glass with unlimited samples, entry at 11 am as well as general access to the whole event. And if you’re planning on drinking, don’t forget about your designated driver! Their tickets are only $10 each (this price also applied to anyone 16-20 years in age).
