Little Free Library Up and Running at Keaton’s Lake in Lake of the Woods! By Pat Licata REALTOR® Helen and Charles Brewer, residents of Lake of the Woods, have installed a Little Free Library at their home on Keaton’s Lake in Lake of the Woods. Inspired by other installations of this project that they encountered in their travels, they decided to add one here at the lake! The concept is simple: take a book, leave a book. Their first visitor was a young girl from their street, and most of their contributors have been nearby neighbors. There are books for everyone, young and old. Visit today at 107 Larkspur Lane and get reading!
Louisa Rucker, newly elected President of the LOWA Board of Directors, will be the speaker at the Civic Club meeting on Wednesday, October 14th, at 7pm in the lower level Clubhouse. Ms. Rucker will be discussing the budgeting process currently underway for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, as well as the Board’s goals. Other Board of Directors serving with Ms. Rucker are: Mike Rugless, Vice President; Leighton Cumming, Secretary; JoAnn Zwickl, Treasurer; Nigel Goodwin; Jim Hutchison; and Larry Morlan.
Prior to her election as president, Ms. Rucker had previously served as Secretary since being appointed, and then elected, to the BOD 34 months ago. Louisa has served as an EMT on the Rescue Squad, been a member of the Clubhouse Committee, begun the Flower Guild at LOW Church, and trained a cadre of arrangers.
Louisa and her husband, Eldon, himself a former LOWA BOD President, have been Lake of the Woods members for 16 years. Louisa grew up in Virginia and, she and Eldon, have lived in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Puerto Rica. Along the way, she has taught English in junior high school and college, edited magazines, served as the executive director of national prolife organization within the Episcopal Church, worked as a flower arranger at the Washington National Cathedral, and has traveled around the United States giving flower arranging demonstrations for the Cathedral. She has owned her floral business, Bluebells and Cockleshells, for the past 23 years and has worked on a Rose Bowl Parade float.
There will be time allotted for questions, and the meeting is open to all residents. We hope to see you there! It’s another beautiful day at the lake!
