If you haven’t heard of the latest trend, you must be living under a rock! There are pages and pages of photos flooding Facebook of kids and adults finding & painting rocks in their communities. So, what’s the big idea about some painted rocks anyway? People of all age ranges from 2 to 50+ years old are spreading joy throughout their communities by painting and hiding rocks. Others go out and find these rocks and re-hide them or save them until they’re ready to part.
How did this craze being? Blogger, Megan Murphy, says she started by painting a few rocks around where she lived in Cape Cod and leaving them in public places for people to find. How exciting it is to find a painted rock with cool designs or an inspiring message! She encouraged others to participate and began receiving such positive feedback and the movement took off! She mentions on her blog, that she has seen this trend extend all the way to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, Thailand, Haiti, Italy and even England.
There are many different Facebook pages you can follow if you’d like to participate and see photos of peoples finds and hints to where they’ve hidden them! LocustGroveROCKS and the Burg Rocks are just a few! The admins encourage everyone to paint, find and hide rocks and then post photos. It’s been a positive impact on the community, coming together to have a fun time! There are even free “classes” or meet-ups to support everyone coming together to paint rocks! Most of the rock groups boasts over 3,000 members!
Here in Locust Grove, Licata Group has found a few rocks of our own hidden in plain site by our local office! We are enjoying participating finding & re-hiding these rocks for others to find!
