Lack of Supply of Homes Available in Today’s Market
There is a lack of supply of homes available for sale in today’s market. Last month, existing home sales fell 2.5%. The median home price in April rose 5.4% compared to last year. According to the National Association of Realtors April also marks the 74th straight month that there has been an annual increase in prices of already-built homes.
What does this mean for the average home buyer? Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Association of Realtors stated, “The worsening housing shortage means home prices are primed to rise further this year too, hindering affordability conditions for home buyers in markets across the country.”
Housing inventory total at the end of March 2018 was 1.67 million existing homes available for purchase. Comparing it to last year it was 7.2% lower than a year ago. We are now experiencing the lowest inventory level in a generation with unsold inventory at 3.6-month supply at the current sales pace.
Competition is at an all time high between millennials, boomers and investors with there being 250,000 fewer starter homes (those priced under $200,000) available now than compared to 2 years ago.
Jessica Lautz, National Association of Realtor’s director of demographics and behavioral insights, was quoted saying, “Buyers know it’s touch, 35% of shoppers anticipate a lot of competition, but they remain optimistic, and more then 70% expect to close in 2018.”

Senator Bryce Reeves will be the featured speaker at the Civic Club meeting on Wednesday, May 30th, at 7 PM, in the Clubhouse Great Hall. We hope you are able to join us! 21st Annual Children’s Fishing Tournament 2018 in LOW!
This awesome family friendly kids event is sponsored by the Lake of the Woods
Lake Youth Foundation!
This children’s event is for children ages 5 to 14 and welcome to Lake of the Woods residents and their guests.
It will be held at the Lake of the Woods front entrance pond on Saturday, June 16th. Check in will start at 8am sharp and the tournament follows beginning at 9am!
The tournament wraps up at 11am with lunch being served to participants and family members immediately after the competition is over. There will be an awards ceremony following at 12pm.

Orange County Public Schools partners with National Inventors Hall of Fame for this Camp Invention! What is Camp Invention? It is a unique elementary summer enrichment program that incorporates science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) focus for the children in the community.
The camp is the week of June 18th and ends June 22nd. This program is open to children in grades Kindergarten – 6th grade and they will experience real world problem solving, creative thinking, invention and teamwork activities. The hands-on activities are hosted by local, certified educators with the goal to fuel children’s confidence in their natural ability to dream and create.

Robotic Pet Vet – During this activity the campers diagnose “robotic dogs” that are “malfunctioning” and use innovation and creativity to design and build dog parks and attractions to get these malfunctioning pups out of the streets and somewhere safe!
Optibot – the children will design ultimate, futuristic vehicles that are self-driving and sense changes in the light.
Stick To It – they will have the opportunity to invent something new everyday with new challenges arising daily. Let the creativity and ideas flow!

Visit Lake of the Woods for a FREE fun day on the water with friends, families and neighbors! The LOW Adaptive Water sports Foundation is teaming up with Wounded Warrior Project for the 4th year in a row and bringing water sports to wounded veterans and their families.
Sports include: water-skiing, tubing, pontoon rides, kayaking, paddle-boarding and plenty of fun outdoor games! Share this great day within a great community!
Lunch, snacks and water will be provided for free throughout the day.

Representatives from Comcast to Address LOW Community Concerns

Representatives from Comcast will be the featured speakers at the LOW Civic Club meeting, Wednesday, April 25th. The meeting will be held in the Great Hall of the Clubhouse beginning at 7 p.m.
The speakers will include a technical expert to explain how the system works, an individual with expertise in Xfinity services and a Comcast business representative. Comcast has been the primary provider of Internet services at Lake of the Woods since it took over from Adelphia in 2005.
The April meeting also will include the election of officers to serve on the Civic Club’s Board of Directors. The officers serve for a one-year term beginning on May 1st, 2018.
The LOW Civic Club hosts monthly speakers and provides an open forum where property owners can learn about issues which affect their lives, interests and investments in the LOW community. The Civic Club hosts speakers including Association officers and management, state and local government officials, Orange County School leaders, and other experts that touch on lives at Lake of the Woods. Each July, the Civic Club hosts an informal event to meet the candidates running for the LOW Board of Directors. In August, it co-sponsors a reception with the LOWA Board to recognize the many volunteers that serve on LOW committees.
The motto of the Civic Club is “Be Concerned, Be Informed, Be Involved.“ Everyone is welcome to attend all Civic Club meetings. Voluntary annual family memberships are $5/year.
Before or after the Civic Club meeting consider having dinner at the Clubhouse. You are welcome to bring your drink form the restaurant to the meeting.
