The Library of Congress Packard Campus that houses the Library of Congress’ Recorded Sound and Moving Images collections and holds film, audio and video preservation laboratories, is hosting their annual open house. Fans of the Library of Congress, native Virginians, film and music enthusiasts, and any one interested in visiting the unique building are encouraged to come to the open house! This year they will focus on how education and training led employees of Packard Campus to their careers within the Library of Congress! Children and school groups are welcome to participate in the Open house Activities! Any slower moving guests and their companions are invited to take the 1:15pm or 1:30pm tour as they will move at a slower pace during this tour and have additional staff available for assistance. This is a free event and the tour is lead by the Packard Campus staff. The guided tour will take you through all 3 floors of the building and will take approximately 1 hour to complete. The tour is free but tickets through EVENTBRITE are required. Only those with a ticket from eventbrite are guaranteed to be on a tour. Walk-ins will be accommodated IF there are spaces available and will have to wait a few hours longer to go on the tour. Tours are limited to 34 people PER start time. Tickets are available until 9am on Monday, October 8th. You do not have to print the ticket as your name will be saved to their computer. Please do not arrive at the Campus more than 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tour. There are only 134 parking spaces so carpooling is highly recommended by the Campus staff. The staff advises that the Campus is chilly year round and it’s recommended that you bring a sweater or a light jacket for your comfort, as well as comfortable walking shoes. You cannot bring large bags into the building, so please leave them in your vehicle or at home. There are metal detectors you have to walk through each time you enter so it’s best to limit what you bring into the building. Security will check the contents of EVERY bag and item taken IN/OUT of the building. The Flying Circus Air show will be hosting a hot air balloon festival in Bealeton Virginia on August 18 through August 19!
This is their first PREMIER ANNUAL EVENT and features an airshow on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. The balloon launches EARLY Saturday and Sunday morning as well as AFTER both shows (weather permitting, of course).
There will be balloon demos, tethered rides (stationary & balloon is tied to the ground), airplane rides, balloon races and many more activities on both days.
There is a huge crowd expected so get there EARLY to claim your spot. The balloons are dependent on CALM conditions so keep an eye on their Facebook and web page for launch updates.
The floating balloon rides are FREE and can be arranged with the individual balloonist. Their phone numbers will be posted at the front door of the gift shop both days so you can make your appointment. Their Facebook states that they will post a list earliest on their event page if they can.

Come out and celebrate the fruits & flowers of summer!
Summer Fest will take place Saturday, July 29th from 10AM to 3pm at 9166 Liberty Mills Rd, Somerset VA 22972.
This Summer Fest will feature their popular “Flowers on the Farm” that allows you and your friends, family and children to pick your own buckets and bouquets for special “you-pick” flower pricing. Be sure to participate in the flower picking, you bring your own 5 gallon bucket and it will be only $20 to fill it with all the mixed flowers you can hold. There are 3 premium flowers that will be there, but the sunflowers and gladiolus are included in your bucket price. You can also build your own bouquet in a mason jar for $7.50. If you forget your bucket, they will be available for purchase for $7.50. Clippers will be provided by the farm.
There will even be yummy cantaloupes and watermelons to sample. Do you like to bake?? Participate in the Zucchini Bake-off contest. Not so good at baking? Try your hand…or mouth in the watermelon seed-spitting contest!
There will be a tractor powered ice cream machine, a farm market and grilled hot dogs during lunch.
There will be plenty of vendors to visit as well. You will have the opportunity to register for their “A-Mazie-ing 5K Race” which will take place inside Liberty Mills Farm’s Corn Maze on Saturday, October 1st.
