Still, you should start your hike early to reach the summit in time for sunrise, and remember that this trail can be quite crowded on weekends.

Located in Shenandoah National Park, the Hightop Mountain Trail offers another excellent sunrise hiking opportunity in Orange County. The trail is about 3.6 miles round-trip and provides a moderate hike with rewarding views. Since it’s within the national park, check for park hours and any entry fees.
Cedar Run Falls and Whiteoak Canyon Loop
Here’s a longer hike that offers a diverse range of natural beauty. Located in Shenandoah National Park, this loop trail takes you past several waterfalls and offers picturesque sunrise views. Start early, and as the sun rises, you’ll be treated to stunning colors reflecting off the waterfalls and the surrounding forest. Thankfully, you can make it here in just thirty to forty minutes of driving from our wonderful Lake of The Woods community. So you won’t be pressed for time too much! The trail is approximately 8.2 miles in total, and you can choose to do the full loop or opt for a shorter hike to specific viewpoints if you prefer a shorter sunrise adventure.
Best Sunset Hikes: Chancellorsville Battlefield Trail
This historic battlefield offers a network of trails that wind through the picturesque countryside. The Chancellorsville Battlefield Trail is a moderate hike that takes you through the site of the Civil War Battle of Chancellorsville. In a large saucepan, heat butter and oil over medium heat until butter is melted. Add onion; cook and stir until tender, 5-7 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Stir in tomatoes, chicken stock, tomato paste, basil, salt, sugar, thyme and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, to let flavors blend, 20-25 minutes.
Remove pan from heat. Using a blender, puree soup until smooth. Return to pan. Slowly stir in cream. Cook and stir over low heat until heated through. If desired, garnish with basil and additional cream.
