The most Instagrammable spots in Orange County, VA

In Orange County, VA, you cannot miss out on visiting the wineries. It’s an obvious choice of location for an Instagram-worthy photo shoot. But the wineries are far from the only thing you can see in the area. So prepare to fill up your feed with photos from your trip.

The finest and most beautiful wineries in the country

If Northern Italy is a bit far for you to go for a wine-tasting tour, don’t worry – Orange County’s Monticelli Wine Trail does not disappoint. So Named after Thomas Jefferson’s plan for the United States to produce its high-quality grapes and wines, this association of wineries counts more than 30 nationally and internationally recognized vineyards you can visit. It is simply a must-see in Orange County, VA. You cannot miss out on Reynaud Florence, with its 40 acres of vineyards that you can observe from the patio, or the Well Hung Vineyard, which has its restaurant.

But perhaps the most famous winery is the state’s largest grape-growing and wine-making operation – Barboursville Vineyards. This 900-acre property has several wine-tasting locations, walking trails, and even ruins of an 1821 mansion that belonged to the original owner before burning down. Sprawling vineyards under the setting sun, dark cellars with hundreds of bottles of tasty wine, or remnants of historical buildings – you’ll surely find photo inspiration here!

Historic homes and hotels

Are you one of those people who likes to post about where they’re staying on social media? If so, Orange County won’t disappoint. If not, Orange County may change your mind. You’ll have your choice of beautiful places to spend your nights here, from hotels to vineyards to historic homes for rent.

Stay at one of the cottages at Barboursville Vineyards to be close to the wineries, or opt for a night at the Inn at Willow Grove, an old plantation dating back to the Civil War era that is now a luxury hotel. If that’s not enough history, the Exchange Hotel in Gordonsville is a Civil War museum and a place to lay your head. Virginia has so much history that if you dream of owning a historical home, you may find your perfect property in Orange County. So keep a moving team on speed dial, as experts from 247logisticservices.com advise, just in case you decide it’s time to make one of those historic homes your own.

Madison’s Montpelier – the home of a US president

It may sound strange to call the home of the country’s fourth president one of the most Instagrammable spots in Orange County, but the Montpelier is something you’ll definitely want to post about. If you have the opportunity, take the guided tour around the exhibit. You’ll learn a lot about the life and work of James Madison and American history in general. The exhibit is fascinating but, at times, upsetting. More than 300 enslaved people spent their lives on the property, and portions of the Montpelier are dedicated to them, their lives, and the conditions they spent them – it’s pretty sobering.

The towns of Orange and Gordonsville

Orange County’s two biggest towns are Orange and Gordonsville. If you’re visiting because you’re considering a move to the area and you’re not going to be working in a winery or on a farm, the odds are that Orange and Gordonsville are among the locations you’re considering. Don’t worry – these towns have everything you need to live the good life. Not only will you be able to keep in touch after moving here long distance but you’ll have plenty of places to take your friends and family to when they visit. But before you start planning on how to  maintain relationships after relocation, here are some of the reasons why Orange and Gordonsville are worth a visit:

  • Orange: A quaint little town that started as a railroad stop and courthouse, Orange is an excellent place for history lovers. Taking the history tour will help you understand the place a bit better. But if the tour is not for you, you can check out the shops in the town center – they offer some terrific art, antiques, and gifts.
  • Gordonsville: The nearby town of Gordonsville started with a tavern that opened at the end of the 18th century. It was a critical railroad junction during the Civil War as it was home to a hospital that treated thousands of wounded. Today, that hospital is a hotel and a Civil War museum that are well worth a visit. But if you want to take a break from all the learning, Gordonsville has some great restaurants where you can eat Instagrammable yet tasty meals.

Local farms and stables

There are plenty of wineries and history to see in Orange County. But there’s also farmland. In truth, as you’re driving through the area, you may notice that most of what you’re seeing are large swaths of private land and not houses dotting the side of the road. Some of these family-owned farms are open to visitors. You can stop by to ride horses or buy from some of VA’s best farmer’s markets. This is an excellent option for a family trip, as both adults and children will have fun.

Must-Visit Wineries in Orange County, Virginia!

Are you on the hunt for a perfect weekend-wine-country-trip kind of action? If that’s so, we’ve got a lot to discuss today. In the article you’re about to read, we’ll introduce you to one of Virginia’s hidden gems: the Orange County wineries. Placed right in the heart of the state, Orange County is a sight to see. This US region will leave you speechless with its jaw-dropping countryside, rich history, and phenomenal wineries. We had a challenging task: there are a lot of top-quality wineries to choose from. However, we’ve selected the ones we consider special, wineries without which Orange County wouldn’t be the same. Join us for a quick tour of the wineries in Orange County, VA, which you absolutely must visit!

Orange County: A good region for wine production

That’s right; many experts consider Orange County, VA, one of the best US regions for wine production. The county is located in the Central Virginia AVA (American Viticultural Area), which, as you might’ve heard, enjoys the reputation of being one of the most prominent wine regions on the East Coast. It’s no wonder once you consider its moderate climate and different soil types well-suited for various grapes. The latter include Cabernet Franc, Viognier, Chardonnay, and many others. Orange County wines are quite infamous (in the best way imaginable) for their richness, complexity, balance, and unique character. Therefore, many wine enthusiasts enjoy an occasional (read: once-in-a-month) trip to Orange County. Also, the locals consider wine-making a part of their lifestyle

As a logical conclusion to the paragraph above, we can say that Orange County is home to some award-winning wineries. We’ve selected only the best. Without further ado, let’s kick-start the tour!

#1 Horton Vineyards (Gordonsville, VA)

Here’s one of the most popular wineries not just in Orange County but in Virginia as a whole: Horton Vineyards. You’ll find this winery on a 55-acre estate near Gordonsville. If you’ve ever heard of the famous Norton grape wine, this is the place where you’ll want to try it. Oh, and it’s not only the wines here that are in question. Horton Vineyards is quite renowned for its beautiful tasting room. You’ll have a chance to enjoy a stunning view of the vineyards while browsing through Horton’s reputable offer. Feel free to book a tour of the vineyards and the winery itself. And if you’re moving to Orange County, getting to know its wine culture is one way to prepare for the process. In other words, it should be a part of your moving checklist. Therefore, let’s continue the list!

#2 Barboursville Vineyards (Barboursville, VA)

Now we’ll introduce you to the oldest winery in the country: Barboursville Vineyards. Since its founding (back in 1976), this winery has been producing some top-quality wines. Its founder is Gianni Zonin and an interesting fact about him makes this winery quite unique: he’s a seventh-generation winemaker from Italy. We can write a whole article about Barboursville Vineyards’ signature award-winning products, but it’s enough for you to know that Octagon is their signature wine and that you should try it. We’re talking about a Bordeaux-style blend wine enthusiasts drool over. Besides touring the place, you sit down and enjoy a nice family dinner in the Barboursville Vineyards’ Palladio restaurant (don’t forget to try the Cassata Semifreddo for dessert).

#3 Woodbrook Farm Vineyard (Orange, VA)

The next one on our list of must-visit wineries in Orange County, VA, is the Woodbrook Farm Vineyard located in Orange (what a name for a town, right?). Resting neatly in the scenic rolling hills of Virginia, this hidden gem offers visitors a temporary solution for all the issues of everyday life, as we’ve heard from the experts over at müv | Trusted Florida Movers. You might want to know that the winery is family-owned and operated, dedicated to sustainable wine production. Their objective is the following: it’s not everything about producing top-quality wine; it’s also about coming up with a product that’s good for the environment. People at the Woodbook Farm Vineyard are specialized in making small-batch, delicious handcrafted wines out of carefully selected grapes using traditional methods. The result is phenomenal, as we hope you’ll find out during your Virginia countryside winery crawl.

#4 Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery (Leon, VA)

If you’re driving through Orange County near Leon, make sure you pay Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery a visit. Ever since the early 1980s, this winery (one of the largest in the state) has been producing high-quality wines. You shouldn’t miss out on enjoying the stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains directly from the HQ. You’ll have a lot of space to spread out, and there’s even an inviting fireplace area you’ll be able to check (especially once the weather turns cold). Okay, and what about the wines? Well, you’ll have a solid offer to choose from: everything from the classic reds and whites to more unique blends. Here’s one neat piece of information about the winery in question: Prince Michel’s wine-making methods include the so-called gravity-flow system meant to minimize oxidation and help preserve the wine’s natural flavor.

Sustainable wine production is something many OC wineries strive for.

#5 Keswick Vineyards (Keswick, VA)

Last but not least on our list of must-visit wineries in Orange County, VA, we’ll talk about the phenomenal Keswick Vineyard located in, well, the name says it all – Keswick. We say phenomenal since most past visitors conclude that once you enter the farm’s premises, it’s like you’ve been magically transported to the rolling hills of Tuscany without needing to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Also, even though Keswick Vineyards are known for their Cabernet Franc and Viognier (don’t forget to treat yourself to a bottle of each), all of their wines are fantastic. Once you get there, you’ll be welcomed by the super-friendly staff who’ll make sure you feel at home right from the start. Lastly, if you’re lucky, you’ll even get to meet Lola. We’re talking about the resident vineyard doggie.

Final words on the must-visit wineries in Orange County, VA

That’s about all we’ve prepared on must-visit wineries in Orange County, VA. Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed this quick tour (and will enjoy a real-life wine tour of all the places that we’ve mentioned above). Orange County is one natural beauty, and there are simply no arguments that prove it’s not worth visiting (also, many people choose OC as their place for retirement). Until next time!

Convincing Reasons to Retire in Orange County, Virginia

Deciding where to live in the latter stage of your life differs from choosing a home when you are younger. In short, it is the first time after a more extended period that you are deciding your life without putting your child first. Whatever your preferences might have been before, you must remember that your health is a significant factor that must be considered in whatever you choose to do during your retirement. When all that is considered, it becomes clear there are plenty of reasons to retire in Orange County, VA. Explore some of them in the following text and see for yourself.

You’ll be able to engage in a lot of outdoor activities to keep you fit

Orange County, VA, is an area with a lot to do. The weather is very diverse, so many different events are happening in the open throughout the year. During winter, people can visit one of the ski resorts nearby and have fun in the snow. Orange County has a festival for every season. For example, the Snow Moon Fest is in its vicinity, which is perfect for everyone. It mainly takes place in March, so you still have time to join all the fun.

When the weather is warmer, the residents and visitors can attend some of the many wine-tasting events. Naturally, barbeque has its festival for the fans of this type of meat – and there are many. Generally, this part of Virginia resides in wonderful nature. Everyone who lives there has a chance to explore daily.

Orange County, VA, offers a variety of outdoor activities in nature.

The slow pace of life will let you relax

One of the biggest reasons to retire in Orange County, VA, is that this part of the world offers peace. Most cities and villages here have few residents who are not packed like sardines in large skyscrapers. Everything is nearby and because of all that, there is no need to be in a hurry or to feel tense. Such easy access to nature Orange County provides allows its residents to use one of the healthiest anti-depressants – peaceful outdoor walks.

Generally, the pace of life is slow here, and everyone is bound to relax and take it easy. In some later years, this aspect is essential to keep one’s sanity. You could even move there in a relaxed manner. When it comes to packing for seniors, a stress-free process is possible, and it’s worth trying in that direction.

One of the reasons to retire in Orange County, VA, is that you’ll be able to relax there.

People can afford more comfortable homes there

The real estate market in Orange County, VA, is more favorable and less harsh for the wallet when compared to many others. That means you might be able to afford your first home here or a bigger one that you had. Owning a home is a dream of many, and being older doesn’t mean you have to give up that dream. That kind of investment is never a waste, especially if you have children or other relatives to whom you want to leave the property. When you own a home, the feeling is slightly more satisfying than in a rental.

For starters, decorating something that is entirely yours is inspiring. Those feeling a bit without a purpose in their retirement days can take up a project like this and feel much better. Besides, any mental stimulation, primarily project-based, is highly beneficial for brain health.

Owning a home in this area is not as expensive as in other parts of the world.

One of the reasons to retire in Orange County, VA, is that you’ll feel safe there

Safety is usually much higher in less densely inhabited areas. Consequently, in Orange County, VA, crime rates are much lower. There’s a good chance you’ll get to know your new neighbors well and half of the community too. Constant social contact increases the safety factor of any individual. Also, there’s not as much traffic as in metropolitan areas. That is relevant for individuals with impaired mobility that can’t run across the street as vigorously.

You can put your belongings in rented storage for an utterly carefree feeling.  Miami Movers for Less claim people have resolved two issues: They got rid of the stress of someone robbing them of some of their stuff and decluttered their living space for a more comfortable everyday life. If that seems like something perfect for you, consider that option.

There are some great neighborhoods for senior living

This part of Virginia is proven to be great for senior living. Here are several communities that stand out as the best ones for this purpose:

  • Lake of the Woods. With a population of approximately 8,500 people, the peace and a sense of living surrounded by a big family are guaranteed. The area has two pools and many parks to engage in enough healthy physical activity. Most that lived there would gladly come back again later in life.
  • Orange. With an even smaller population than Lake of the Woods, Orange is the capital of slow living but with enough modern amenities. This little area is very safe, so you can sleep soundly there.

#5 Sometimes, the best events are private

At the end of the day, if none of the options work for you, you can always opt for staying at home. It could be just you and your loved one having a romantic evening, or you can even consider throwing a New Year’s Eve party and inviting your friends. It’s a great way to say goodbye to 2022 with everyone you love and care about the most.

Sometimes, the best events are not the most extravagant ones but the ones you get to spend with people you care about the most.

However, if you do choose to throw a New Year’s bash, we highly recommend you first prepare your apartment. By this, we don’t only mean the decorations and other fun activities. Instead, make sure to remove any valuable or fragile items that could easily get damaged or broken. Or, if you live in a small space, you might want to consider moving some furniture around to create more room for your guests. You can always take advice from the team from mod-movers.com and rent a storage unit to safely keep your things until the party’s over.

Wrapping up!

As the clock ticks down to midnight on New Year’s Eve, it’s a time to reflect on the past year and look forward to all the future holds. No matter how you choose to celebrate this special occasion, the important thing is to be with the people you love and make memories that will last a lifetime. So, whether you attend one of the extravagant New Year’s Eve events in Orange County, VA, featured in this article, or create your own celebration at home, make the most of this special evening and ring in the new year with style. We wish you a Happy New Year!
